Despite of our culture, the above article shows that Singapore is slowly opening up to homosexuals. In the article, PM Goh(at that point in time) reveals that the Singapore government employs gays and even in sensitive jobs. I agree with the idea. We employ a person rather then his/her sexual orientation. Singapore has no natural resources except for its people (human resource). If we do not accept and continue to ostracize this group of people, then we are going to lose valuable manpower. Many of us do not realize there are actually lots of talents in this group and this is may not be beneficial to our country. Apart from the economic point of view, media publish that more countries are now opening to the gay/les community, could culture imperialism be another factor that results in the decision the PM Goh made?
I just ended my communications project discussion. During the discussion, we happened to come across the above website. How we got into that website is still a mystery. The article is about same sex marriage in Netherlands. Anyway, after that we had a minor argument if homosexuality is nature or nurture According to one of my group mates, from a religious point of view, homosexual/bisexual relationships are unacceptable. However, we should condemn only the act and not the person. He also argued that it is the process of nurturing that makes a person gay/lesbian. Media influence has also got to share part of the responsibility.

In my opinion, homosexuality is nature. From the above articles, we can see that homosexuality not only occurs in humans, but there are also animals that are homosexual. The media can influence us humans, but does it have the same impact on the animals? How different can we be from the animals?
The next question we ponder on is why same sex marriages are legalized in the Netherlands and not in Singapore. Homosexuality is now becoming more accepted by many countries. However, there’re still countries that are unable to accept such practice. In Singapore, same sex marriage is not permitted although we are greatly influenced by the outside world. In my opinion, it is probably due our culture.

Quite dumb right for us to ostracize people just because their gays or lesbians? Imagine THEM ostracizing us cause we're straight and not in the trend to be in love with the same sex! Haha.. I just feel it's retarded. I mean we can't stop them falling in love with someone. Let alone if it's someone being a different gender than what the community condones it's right. It's like saying I, being a Malay, can't go for a Chinese or an Indian guy. That's utter rubbish. SIngapore should start legalizing same sex marriage. As a matter of fact, I don't think they are there to kill all other heterosexuals. They are humans just like us with different orientations and just wants to run their own life as per normal.
Well to me this type of behavior is what I treat it as imbalance lifestyle .As people can see that more people are getting their way through to their own freedom as in to choose the sex of partner that they can be with.No doubt that two person with the same gender are not suppose to be in a relationship in a norm. And the worse thing is with new technology been introduce .Their obstacles toward getting together is no longer there. No doubt how people view them.Example the woman can change into a man after a surgery and be together with the woman "he" love .And they play as normal opposite sex partner .This show that they still mind how people feel about their progress about same sex relationship or else nth needs to be done .In additional these couples shouldn't be adopting children or giving birth. As this type of environment will provide the kids with a abnormal family life or childhood life :)Or maybe this type of lifestyle will carry on with the kids they bring up .In the end i have no idea hwo the world is going to be omg!!!!!
people should be free to chose the sex of their partners. as adults, they are more than mature enough to make their own decision and we should respect their choices. however, many people find it weird to have same sex marriages. also, if same sex marriages occur quite frequently, will there be a time where a large number of children(adopted) in such families be affected and become the same as their parents?
i think we should not ostracize this group of people. instead like what you have said try to understand them. we cannot control how each individual think and everyone has different mindsets and belifs after all they not committing any crime. however, i still do not feel that same sex marriages should be legalised. As what audrie has said, it will lead to several social problems.
Homosexuality is not an in-built nature. I believe that it is through the person's upbringing or external influence for example the media. It can be corrected if the person is willing to seek for help. However, i agree that we should not ostracize these people, we should accept them into our society as it is their habit and idealogy we cant accept and not the person.
Singapore should stand strong on not allowing same sex marriages. It is not obstracizing them, but at times, rules and law needs to be followed. Or else the country will be in a mess. By nature, opposite sex attracts. And looking at a religious view, homosexuality should not be allowed. The society can come up with helpline and courses to help those homosexuals.
